Stadium Review
- Monday Night Matchup
Quest for 31 at Texas StadiumMonday Night Football is bigger and badder in the state of Texas. So this matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys on ESPN’s Monday Night Football was a great time to check off Stadium #20 on the Quest for 31. The last time I visited Texas Stadium, I took a guided tour of the place and of all the Stadium Tours I’ve taken around the league, the tour of Texas Stadium is easily the best of the lot. Not only do they put you in the right frame of mind to appreciate the history of the building when the tour begins, but this stadium tour concludes with time down on the field accented by footballs and kicking tees that are provided by your tour guide. It was one of the best twenty minutes of my life, kicking a football through the uprights, darting in and out of the Cowboys endzone, looking up through the dramatic hole in the roof, or running back imaginary kickoffs to the delight of an imaginary crowd. This part of the tour is definitely a unique thrill that every NFL fan must experience if given the opportunity.

The Y.O. Ranch SteakhouseThe city of Dallas is a fascinating place to visit, especially for a football game. The Historic West End District is where you want to be for live entertainment, a great meal, and even a conspiracy theory. My girlfriend, Crystal, and I started the evening with a superb meal at Y.O. Ranch Steakhouse, a moderately priced, traditional Texas steakhouse, boasting five star dining in casual Texas style and they certainly did not fail to deliver on that claim. The West End is also a great place for bar hopping or even mulling over the Kennedy assassination conspiracy, as all landmarks including the book depository, grassy knoll, and Elm Street assassination route are accessible to the public. But I was in town for some football and armed with some premiere seats that I got on TicketCity.com, we were ready for the visiting Philadelphia Eagles.

I
DallasTailgate.com setup some prime Dallas Texas Tailgating in advance by contacting Felix Chavez of DallasTailgate.com, the premiere tailgating experience in Dallas. Felix is a longtime Dallas Cowboys fan who’s well versed in the ins and outs of local tailgating flavor. He and his crew had setup an assortment of brews and grilled meats including his patented Championship Chorizo Burgers … another fantastic find on the Quest for 31. Cowboys fans take to the parking lots early and just like Felix, everyone is firing up Texan-style barbecues accented with their alcoholic beverage of choice. The Cowboys look like the team to best in the NFC again this season and with the hit taken by the injury to Tom Brady and the departure of Brett Favre from Green Bay, they look like the favorite to win the Super Bowl this year. I guess only time will tell how far the Cowboys are able to take all of this potential

The Jokeraider on Monday Night FootballAnyway, after several hours of drunken debauchery, Crystal and I took to Texas Stadium to watch the Dallas Cowboys lock horns with the Philadelphia Eagles for the last Monday Night Football Game in Texas Stadium. Texas Stadium is an iconic facility. Like Candlestick Park in San Francisco, the ghosts of championships of the past loom large within the building and an unmistakable aura of success is present everywhere you go. It’s said that the hole in the roof is there to allow God to watch His team. Well if that’s true He saw an amazing football game on this night, as the Eagles and Cowboys traded touchdowns in a thrilling offensive shootout resulting in a 41- 37 Cowboys win. Lots of long balls, great special teams play, and explosive offenses on display as not one fan left the building until the final seconds clicked off the clock. By the end of the evening the Eagles were hanging their heads as the Cowboys took control of the NFC Eastern Division with a 2-0 record.  How ‘bout them Cowboys!
