Stadium Review -
Tampa Bay: The Jewel of the South
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Stadium
For all intensive purposes, Raymond James Stadium is one of the finest facilities in the league for a fan to visit.  The pirate theme carried throughout the football stadium adds an aura of old world mystique (makes me wanna wear an eye patch and peg leg with a parrot defecating on my shoulder).  The Pirate Ship looming over the north endzone, is the greatest prop in the NFL.  It fires one cannon when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers enter the red zone and when they score, the cannons fire again as the crowd is showered with gifts.  The concessions stands behind the pirate ship are built to resemble an old sea wharf, which is a very nice touch to bring the endzone area together.

It was another wonderful Tampa day as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers faced off against the Atlanta Falcons and the Incomparable Mike Vick.  We began the day by tailgating in a center median on a split highway near the stadium.  Employing my propane pocket grill, I prepared a feast of Hotdogs with Chili sauce, a pound of Stone Crab claws I had purchased at the local Publix, and some Acorn Squash to provide the fiber I would surely need later.  When stone crab is in season, I highly recommend it.  Apparently these little guys grow their claws back, so stone crab farmers catch 'em in traps, snap off one of their claws and throw the crabs back into the water so another claw can be harvested the following year.  When I bought these things I was assured that the shells are not that tough to crack. "A butter Knife", I was told is the only implement I would need to penetrate them ...so I bought a steel nut cracker.  I had no luck breeching those hardened shells with my nut cracker however ... until I positioned the crab claw on top of the cooler and proceeded to violently swing my nut cracker repeatedly at the claw - that did the trick.  Crab meat good ... little bits of shell - Bad.

The Food
Raymond James Stadium's concessions are equally impressive.  Along with the Standard fare, would-be pirates can partake of a smoked turkey leg or a fabulous steak sandwich for $7.75.  Although partial to the caveman, hunter/gatherer feeling that accompanies gnawing on a giant turkey leg, I have a weakness for the steak sandwich as well, which is served as a nice cut of steak with plenty of onions and green peppers on top - don't miss either one.
