Stadium Review
- Monster Park
San Francisco 49ers Stadium
Monster Park ... previously Candlestick Park and the original venue of the great San Francisco 49ers dynasty of the nineteen-eighties.  The ghosts of Niner greats Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Brent Jones, Roger Craig, Ronnie Lott ... all loom within the facility.  I followed the Niners as a boy, so visiting Monster Park was a lifelong desire of mine.  In talking to the folks who hold the naming rights to the stadium, I was told that many confuse the stadium name with that of the career assistance website with a similar name.  Well I'm here to tell you that when you think Monster Park, think of my friends at Monster Cable - shameless plug, how strangely commercial.

As for visiting the stadium itself, I'm sorry to say that Monster Park does not currently offer a organized tour.  This is a shame as the stadium has a great storied history that I think they'll find many are interested in seeing for themselves.  I was fortunate enough to arrange for one of the kind folks on staff to show me around Monster Park.  I have to say that I am completely thrilled with the experience she provided.  I was able to see the 49ers locker room, stand on the 50-yard line, and walk the same tunnel that all San Francisco 49er greats used to enter and exit the field.  In order to comply with the wishes of the Monster Park staff, I am unable to include some of these photos below.

On this day, the grounds crew at Monster Park was in the process of re-sodding the field for next season so it was all sand.  Sand or not I was still undeterred and I ran ... check that, sprinted (reclaiming former Athletical prowess) from one end zone to the other eliciting the imaginary cheers of an even more imaginary crowd.  As I entered the other end zone, the constraints of my current age immediately caught up with me as gasping for breath I shook the sand off the bottoms of my shoes close to collapse.  A fine performance indeed ... "Well Done!"

Monster Park is actually owned by the City of San Francisco and is easily accessible by Interstate 80.  It is must be a great gameday facility with ample amounts of parking and I'm sure throngs of tailgating fans.  I'm hoping to make it back to San Francisco next season to catch a game with a local friend of mine.  Special thanks to the folks at Monster Cable and the City of San Francisco for making my trip to Monster Stadium a MONSTROUS one.

Monster Park Stadium Tours

Currently, Monster Park does not offer a stadium tour.  In my opinion they might reconsider this current policy as I believe there are many NFL fans in San Francisco and around the nation that would be interested in such a tour.
