Stadium Review
- Lincoln Financial Field
Philadelphia Eagles Stadium
I thought Michigan was bad with not allowing their drivers to make left-hand turns, but the New Jersey non-existent left turn takes the cake. Instead of the Michigan-left (a U-turn and a right-hand turn) which I find really stupid, in New Jersey they have these special horseshoe-shaped “All Turn” lanes. Maybe it’s me but if you can’t trust your drivers to make left-hand turns, maybe they shouldn’t have a license … but I digress.

Lincoln Financial Field was to be Stadium #11 on my Quest for 31 (that is if I could find myself a ticket to the game). I rolled into Lincoln Financial Field forty minutes before gametime without tickets and without a place to park my car. By the time I got there the parking lots around the stadium were full, but the friendly neighborhood scalpers were out in full force. It appears that when the parking lots fill up, Philadelphia Eagles fans just park their cars on the side of the road - Parking tickets be damned! I was sure I’d be ticketed, but four hours later my car stood unmolested and ticket free.

Lincoln Financial Field has a fairly steep-sided bowl shape that almost feels like an arena as you slide into your seat, and there’s definitely not a bad seat in the place. With plenty of club seating, great concessions, and access to beer on all levels, Lincoln Financial Field is an impressive facility. I was told the crowd is so rough they actually installed a courthouse in the stadium to assist in processing those that get too carried away, but I couldn’t find the court house nor could I find anything but polite fans in every section I visited. I spent the majority of the game in my seat in the upper deck, but later found myself in the standing room areas of the stadium that open up in each endzone to catch the end of the game. I thought the Terrell Owens jersey I bought on E-bay for would garner some heckling, but it went fairly unnoticed. My apologies Philly fans, the jersey was cheap and I still need to get to twenty other stadiums for a game.

Tonight the Washington Redskins were in town and the Philly faithful showed up in full force. With nothing but a sea of green as far as the eye can see, Lincoln financial Field was filled with fans eager to cheer their team onto their first victory. Unfortunately it was a victory that will have to wait at least another week as Donovan McNabb and the offense were just not in sync. On this night the Philadelphia Eagles would fall to the cannon arm of Jason Campbell who seemed primed for a breakout year at the quarterback position in Washington. The night reminded me of the breakout performance of Tony Romo that Jermain and I attended in Charlotte last year in Bank of America Stadium.

The Food
Go no further than to check out the famed Philly cheesesteak to quell your gametime hunger pains. Now I concede that I may not know a good Philly cheesesteak from a falsified facsimile of the real thing, but what slid down my throat from the concession stand tasted fine to me. I was told that Philly fans apparently accent their cheesesteak sandwich with salt and pepper and ketchup, lots of ketchup.
