Stadium Review - Road Trip to Roswell ![]() I have always wanted to set foot in Roswell, New Mexico ... just to say that I've been there. For as long as I can remember, I've always been fascinated by the idea of Alien life forms visiting our little rock floating around in the known universe. I found out a couple years ago that the city of Roswell, New Mexico hosts a UFO Festival every year around the forth of July and the "Roadtrip to Roswell" was born. On the way it would be easy to visit several stadiums, so Crystal and I decided to to drive down to Roswell, since neither one of us has ever driven out west. We began our trip with a visit to the Edward Jones Dome where the St. Louis Rams play. The Edward Jones Dome is a massive facility in the heart of St. Louis. Driving my trusty Ford Explorer that was decked out for the Roswell trip with "ALIEN HUNTER" badging, we found parking with some rather accommodating Catholic priests in the church lot across the street from the stadium. The Edward Jones Dome does not offer stadium tours, so we were left to take a few pictures outside. The Edward Jones Dome appears to offer an amazing fan experience. There is plenty of parking and lots to do in the bustling St. Louis metropolis. In 2005, the Rams installed a FieldTurf system, similar to what is used in most of the Stadiums around the NFL, but the Magic Carpet Astro Turf system that preceded it in the Edward Jones Dome was fairly unique. Before each game the turf, which was rolled up in a pit under the concrete surface of the Dome, was pulled across the field by hydraulic winches. A special air blower system blew air between the floor surface and the astro turf to reduce friction between the two allowing the Astro Turf to ride on a cushion of air during installation. At night the Asto Turf was rolled up in the same way. We took a couple of pictures near
the Gateway Arch and were on our way to Oklahoma City and then to the Four
Corners monument at the intersection of Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New
Mexico. |
